30 Aug How to create Minecraft cocoa bean farm
The cocoa bean is one of the most unusual crops in Minecraft because it can only grow on jungle tree leaves. The beans will drop down to the ground when you break a leaf, but they won’t have an effect on your hunger or health bars unless you pick them up and eat them by hand. Not only are they non-renewable and hard to find, but they are also awkward to farm. How do you make a Minecraft cocoa bean farm?
If you want to grow some cocoa beans, first find some jungle trees. They are most often found in a group of three, with one large tree surrounded by two smaller ones. Also read: Best gaming platform for sports games
How do you make a minecraft cocoa bean farm?
The first thing you need is jungle wood planks and leaves. You can probably find jungle trees growing in the middle of jungles if you wander around enough, but if not, then just craft your own saplings with 9-10 sticks each and plant them on a dirt block. After the jungle trees grow, cut down the leaves and craft them into planks (6-8 leaves make 1 wood plank). When you have as many as you need, then start building a tall platform around 12 blocks high.
You need to make sure that your platform has three blocks of open space on all sides, and that it is at least three blocks deep so your beans have something to fall onto. You can plant cocoa beans in dirt blocks on the inside of your platform, or if you’d rather not do any planting yourself, then just surround the edge with pumpkin seeds. Be careful though; since they are non-renewable, you only get three cocoa beans when they grow.
After that, all you can do is wait. It will take about six real-life hours before the beans begin to sprout from the leaves, but after a day there should be at least 27 cocoa beans. You can then pick them and eat them by hand. If you want to farm cocoa beans for their bonemeal, which is used in early-game recipes such as bread and cake, then you will need a lot more than that. It’s best to stick with trees if all you want is bonemeal since the yield is much greater.
Where to find cocoa beans in Minecraft?
You’ll need to find some jungle trees. These can be found in the overworld, but most often appear in a group of three, with one large tree surrounded by two smaller ones (the small ones look like saplings). Once you’ve found some jungle trees, either craft your own saplings by stacking nine or ten 1-meter pieces of wood or find some already-grown jungle trees and chop them down.
Finally, you’ll need to build a tall platform around 12 blocks high (3 meters), with three open spaces on all sides. At least three blocks deep are also required so that when the cocoa beans fall they have rooms to land in, but no deeper than 8 blocks. Once your platform is ready, surround the center with either dirt or pumpkin seeds, and wait about six hours until the cocoa beans sprout from the leaves. At this point, you can either pick them and eat them raw, or leave them on the ground for a few days to grow into cocoa pods which will drop more cocoa beans when destroyed. Once you have the pods, break them to collect the beans.
Most cocoa beans in Minecraft drop from the jungle leave at random when broken, but there is a rare chance of dropping either a cocoa pod or an apple instead. A cocoa bean farm will not yield any cocoa pods until they are grown back on their own. If you want to make cocoa pod farms, you might want to keep some spare cocoa beans so that you can craft a hoe with one to farm pumpkin seeds.
